This weak Deacon Jim Curtain, Melbourne’s Senior Prison Chaplain, visited Antonine College to talk about his experience inside Melbourne’s prisons and Youth Justice Centres. For our Year 10 Catch the Wave students, it was the next best thing to completing the Work of Mercy, Visit the Imprisoned. Deacon Jim gave us the ability to understand the dignity of the people inside the walls of these prisons, and the powerful work he and his colleagues do. The Year 11 Legal Studies students also benefited, gaining a new perspective in regards to the legal system and it’s effect on prisoners.
The Year 10 Catch the Wave students will now work through the rest of the ‘See, Judge, Act’ Process in class. After learning about the issue, they will now reflect on it, and then plan an action that the college can get behind.
