Thursday, May 26, 2022

The VCAA Plain English-Speaking Award (PESA) is a public-speaking competition for students aged 15-18 years. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to build self-confidence and extend their skills in oral communication, speech writing and research.

Congratulations to Ghada El Nazer for proudly representing Antonine College on Thursday 26 May at the VCAA PESA Competition. There were 11 participants from a range of Independent, Catholic and Government schools in Melbourne. Ghada bravely and with conviction presented a prepared six-minute speech followed by an impromptu 4-minute speech that she had two minutes to prepare notes for. The competitors received general group feedback and individual feedback at the end of the day from the adjudicator's who took 30 minutes to deliberate, as they noted the competition today was very strong. Ghada enjoyed the day immensely and is grateful for the opportunity to represent the College and be part of a great learning experience.

Ghada El Nazer – Reflection from PESA Competition

"To stand in front of people from other schools and judges and discuss my ideas sounded very horrific and frightening at first. However, I chose to challenge myself and registered.

Here I am today sharing this magnific experience with you.

It was such a beautiful experience: you get to meet new people and learn about how they think and interpret things differently. You get to support people you don’t know and be supported by them. You also get t to know the other side of your teachers, challenge yourself, and miss a day of school.

It was such an amazing experience that I am willing to take again and again. I encourage all young people, to give it a go next year."
