Year 11 and 12 Physics Excursion

Tuesday, August 30, 2022

On Tuesday 30th August, the Year 11 and 12 Physics students visited the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton, a major scientific research facility. The students had a tour of the site lead by one of the scientists working in the facility. They learnt about the powerful beams of light produced by the Australian synchrotron that are used in different experiments to observe the molecular and atomic structure of a wide range of materials. They were eager to learn about the applications of this powerful light beam in many important areas such as health and medicine, food, environment, biotechnology, nanotechnology, agriculture, aerospace engineering, forensics, and cultural heritage.
