Year 11 English Incursion

Friday, August 19, 2022

The Year 11 students were excited to watch their English texts The Longest Memory and 7 Stages of Grieving come to life in a performance presented by Complete Works Theatre on Thursday the 18th August.

The 7 Stages of Grieving by Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman, is a one woman play that follows the journey of an Indigenous woman through a series of stories of grief and reconciliation. The Longest Memory by Fred D'Aguiar however is a novella that examines the cruel treatment of slaves in Virginia, USA, between 1790 and 1810.

The performance integrated scenes from both these texts, enabling students to make clear thematic comparisons and contrasts between them. After the performance, students were invited to ask questions during a Q&A session with the performers. They asked well thought out questions and were provided further depth to their understanding of the context and themes in both texts.
