Year 12 English Excursion

Wednesday, August 31, 2022

On August 31, the Year 12 students made their way to ACMI, Federation Square for an English excursion. Very fittingly, the day signalled many lasts. The last day of winter, the last English excursion and the last ever English SAC students would have to prepare for. Nevertheless, we were all very eager to embrace the sunny day and take a break from the normal classroom regiment to gain further insight and knowledge into our studies. As part of the final comparative writing outcome, students viewed the film ‘The Queen’ which depicts the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997 and the subsequent events that played out in the Royal Family and the UK. A lecture was then delivered to students allowing them the opportunity to dissect the film and text ‘Ransom’ by David Maalouf, which re imagines the story of the Iliad. The day provided some very valuable revision for both SAC and upcoming exam whereby students critiqued, analysed and engaged in discussion about themes, ideas and values present in both texts. Thank you to the students for exhibiting respectful behaviour and wonderful engagement, and to Ms Garra and Ms Tabet for accompanying us on the day.
