Year 3 and 4 STEAM Subjects

Wednesday, May 04, 2022

Years 3 and 4 are taking part in a rotation of STEAM subjects at Cedar. Each term our Year 3 and 4 classes experience one aspect of STEAM. This year’s our four topics are science experiments, farm-to-table gardening, drama and recycling.

A snapshot of the Science Experiment topic:

3B conducted their first hands-on experiment in the Cedar science lab called “The Leakproof Bag.” Students first made their own hypotheses, then conducted the experiment to see if they could poke holes into a zip lock bag full of water without any water leaking. They used sharp pencils and left the pencils in! You may like to try this experiment at home. - Mrs Hocking

A snapshot of the Gardening subject:

Year 4A have been busy weeding our garden beds this term and planting broad beans. We all look forward to a plentiful harvest. Well done to our Year 4 students for their enthusiasm and hard work. - Mr Blanco

A snapshot of the Recycling subject:

After a lively introduction on Recycling and the 3 R’s, students in 4B created an informational poster with a partner, including: The recycle symbol, drawing the different types of bins, drawing items that can be reused, recycled, and writing some brainstormed facts on what they know so far. Posters were to inform someone on the importance of recycling and why. An important issue in today’s world!
