Year 4-6 District Cross Country

Wednesday, May 18, 2022

On Wednesday the 18th of May, 36 students from Years 4, 5 and 6 braved the cold weather to represent Antonine College in the Coburg District Cross Country. We worried about rain, but other than a brief shower during the 12-year-old boys’ race, it stayed dry and the sun came in and out throughout the morning. Our students showed great school spirit, breaking into chants nearly from the moment we arrived, and even delivering a brief rendition of the school anthem. Particularly for the Year 4 students, it was their first experience of the cross country race, but all students ran well and were very proud of their certificates, regardless of the place they achieved.

One of our Year 5 boys, Peter Alashkar, placed 7th in the 11-year-old boys’ race and will go on to represent Antonine College at the next level of competition. Beyond his great skill as a runner, we are especially proud of his sportsmanship. Lining up to provide his details at the marshalling booth at the end of the race, Peter took time to shake hands and congratulate the other winning runners from the other schools. These are the values we are so proud to see in our Antonine students! Well done to Peter and all the other runners on the day.
