Year 4 Don Bosco Retreat

Wednesday, June 01, 2022

Antonine College Religious Education Retreats are an integral part of our Maronite Catholic school life. The term retreat refers to time away from the normal school program where students have the opportunity to reflect on their personal relationship with God as well as have time to play and get to know each other. The Year 4 Retreat which was held on Wednesday 1st June at the Don Bosco Youth Centre promoted the students’ awareness of the presence of God in their lives.

The day began with prayer and meditation in the Chapel which focussed on the feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church which occurs next Sunday 5th June. We remembered the coming of the Holy Spirit to the apostles and also prayed for awareness of the Holy Spirit in our Church and in our own lives.

Our other sessions challenged us to reflect on the Parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke’s Gospel which calls on us to treat others the way we want to be treated—even if it's someone we don't like too much. We were also challenged to recognise how our behaviour is affected by our emotions which in turn affects our relationships with others. We created an art piece which depicted the feelings we show on the tip of an iceberg and the feelings that remain below the surface and spent time talking to one another about our images.

We had a wonderful time being together at Don Bosco and had lots of fun playing on the Equipment as shown in the following comments:

Today at Don Bosco, it was the BEST excursion I’ve ever been to. We learnt a new prayer; we did an art activity based on how we feel, and we also learnt about the parable of the Good Samaritan. At break time, we jumped on the trampolines, played pool, fuse ball tennis, and air hockey. There was also a gymnastics area with a vault and a basketball room with two basketballs and 3 different sized hoops. My two favourite things to do on break were jumping on the trampoline and playing air hockey with my best friend. - Nicole Year 4A

Today we went to Don Bosco. We went to the Chapel and prayed to strengthen our relationship with God. We did a fun art activity about how our emotions influence our actions and how we can develop positive relationships with others. We also spoke about the importance of being more aware of our emotions and how to manage them. We also played and had so much fun. My favourite activities were jumping on the trampoline, table soccer and table tennis. - Alyssa Year 4B
