Year 5 Science Week

Friday, August 19, 2022

Science Week was held across Australia on August 13-21, but because our science lessons went right through the end of that week, we were not able to share them in the last newsletter. The theme this year’s science week is Glass.

I’m sure you know that window glass is transparent, but did you know that materials can also be translucent or opaque, depending on how light travels through them? We used all three types of materials to make beautiful suncatchers for our classroom. We also investigated refraction, when light bends as it travels through glass or water, by performing some experiments in the science lab. We even learned about how rainbows are made!

Learning all about light has helped us to understand more about space, but also about everyday life here on earth.
