Throughout the term, Year 7 students have been learning about the themes and issues in Wall-E and how they relate to the real world. They have focused on consumerism, humanity/human connection, sustainability and waste, and overreliance on technology. This has led to some great discussion and understanding of not only the issues that face us, but solutions we can achieve through cooperation.
To consolidate and clarify their knowledge of these themes, during week five and six of term 3, students were tasked with creating a group poster. This involved explaining the theme and how it relates to Wall-E and the real world. Students also got to demonstrate their creativity and love for Eve and Wall-E through colour and creativity.
I was really impressed with the collaboration of the students, with each member making meaningful contributions to the posters. The results speak for themselves, as there were great examples that demonstrated care not only to the content but to the layout and design of the poster.
In addition, an assessment tasked students with creating a brochure that explored two themes in more detail. They were required to show not only how they were presented in Wall-E and the real world but also provide solutions to some of these issues related to themes and finally make a comparison between these two issues. Once again, students demonstrated a creative flair to their work and made novel connections between the themes they chose.
