Our staff have a broad range of teaching strategies to support students’ diverse learning and wellbeing needs. We provide professional learning to ensure staff operate with the most up-to-date, evidence-based teaching methodologies. This includes:

  • Explicit Instruction: a teacher-led approach breaking down complex learning into manageable parts

  • Retrieval Practice: recalling learned information from memory to solidify understanding and apply knowledge in new contexts

  • Reading is Thinking: a cognitive process that requires readers to engage with the text. Students are encouraged to apply ‘reading is thinking’ strategies when completing daily reading

  • Maths is Reasoning: a holistic maths approach which targets fluency, dispositions, problem solving, communication and conceptual understanding

  • Hegarty’s Phonemic Awareness: a structured curriculum which helps students to develop strong reading and spelling skills by breaking down words into individual sounds

  • Berry Street Education Model: evidence-based strategies for building safe, engaging and supportive learning environments, where learning and wellbeing are prioritised as essential to growth and achievement

  • Guided and Independent Practice: a guided practice involves modelling a skill or task and guiding students to complete it on their own. Independent practice involves students working on tasks without teacher guidance.

Assessment and reporting

To support staff to meet student needs and drive our continuous improvement agenda, we collect and analyse data and monitor student and class performance.

We use a range of methods to ensure parents are connected to the learning journey, including:

  • Semester and mid-semester reports

  • Seesaw updates

  • SIMON Learning Management System and Parent Access Module (PAM) updates and letters

  • Digest emails (Year 7-12)

  • Phone, email and face-to-face meetings.
