Year 5 MAV Games Day

Friday, July 29, 2022

On Friday the 29th of July, Ms Mori took 6 of the Year 5 students to Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School to compete in the MAV Maths Games Day. We had lot of fun because we played maths games and competed against many schools from all over Victoria. We were split into two teams, where we needed to get points by answering maths problems and participating in maths games to represent the school and win awards. Team 2 won a card probability game and got some prizes. At the end of the day, we met lots of students from different schools. It was a really fun day and we learned lots of new maths skills. Thanks to Ms Mori for organising the day and coming with us!

Maths Challenge!

Look at the photo of our team at the end of the day. Can you see the fingers we’re holding up? See if you can solve these puzzles. The first 5 students to come to Ms Mori with the correct answers will win an MAV Games Day badge:

  1. What 4-digit number are the boys across the back row showing?
  2. What 2-digit number are the girls in the front row showing?
  3. How many students are holding up odd numbers?
  4. What is the total number of fingers the students are holding up?

Bonus question: How many fingers are the students not holding up?
