Year 12 Biology Students Explore BioSciences at the University of Melbourne

On Wednesday, 22 July, Year 12 Biology students participated in an engaging BioSciences workshop at the University of Melbourne, where they explored key concepts from their current unit of study on evolution and immunity.

During the hands-on workshop, students investigated genetic mutations by examining the physical characteristics of fruit flies and explored how mutations can influence wing development in male and female flies. They also analysed population samples to investigate antibody production and how the immune system responds to influenza.

The experience gave students valuable insight into working in a professional laboratory and the important role geneticists play in advancing scientific research. It was a highly rewarding day that deepened students' understanding of Biology while inspiring future pathways in science.
